Kenya Power announces planned blackout in parts of 6 counties on July 14

The outage is expected to help with maintenance and upgrade works aimed at improving the quality and reliability of the electricity supply.
“Good evening. Please find the areas on scheduled power maintenance for 14/07/2025.^FW,” the statement, posted on X on Sunday, July 13, 2025, read.
According to the notice shared by the utility company, the blackout will affect specific areas in the North Rift, South Nyanza, Mt. Kenya, and Coast regions. The power interruption will last for several hours, with most areas experiencing it between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
In the North Rift region, residents of Kapsabet Town and Namgoi in Nandi County will be affected. Power will go off from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, impacting businesses and homes in the surrounding areas.
Moving to the South Nyanza region, parts of Kisii Town and Egesa in Kisii County will also be without electricity from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Affected areas include Kona Mbaya, Bochura, Jeokovilla, Egesa, Keyaba, and parts of Daraja Mbili.
Other regions
In the Mt. Kenya region, several counties will experience interruptions. In Meru County, areas such as Kionyo, Mugae, and Kiamweri will have no power from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Key markets, cooling plants, and schools are among the affected facilities.
Kirinyaga County will also see a blackout from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Areas around Kabare Girls and Ithareini will be affected, including Mukengeria, Gatunguru, and parts of Kiangombe.
In Murang’a County, the Delmonte Factory area will have no electricity between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. This includes Delmonte Factory, Imani Village, Pioneer Girls, and surrounding institutions.
Lastly, in the Coast region, parts of Malindi in Kilifi County will be affected between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. Locations include Malindi Airport, Msabaha, Kijiwetanga, Kizingo, and Kwachocha.
Kenya Power has advised customers to plan accordingly and take necessary precautions, especially those using sensitive electrical equipment. The company has assured the public that the upgrades will lead to better service delivery and fewer unplanned outages in the future.
