Kenya Power announces blackout in parts of Nairobi and 10 other counties
By Valerian Khakayi, September 1, 2025Kenya Power has announced a temporary blackout scheduled to affect a section of Nairobi, Machakos, Busia, Kakamega, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Meru, Kiambu, Kitui and Kilifi on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
The utility company attributed this interruption to routine network maintenance.
“Good Evening. The listed areas will be under planned power maintenance tomorrow (2nd September 2025). We regret any inconvenience that may be caused during the operations,” Kenya Power announced.
Specific areas
In Nairobi County, the 9:00 am to 5:00 pm planned power blackout is set to affect customers in parts of Nairobi West.
The affected areas include Muhuti Avenue, part of Muhoho Avenue, Mama Ngina Children’s Home, part of Ole Shapara Road, Uchumi Road, Heshima Estate, Aljazeera, Five Star Estate, Ruby Estate, Halai Estate, Jua Kali Road, Olive Road, St Catherine of Alexandria Catholic, Momon Estate, Midland Court Estate, Fedha Apartments, Parkview Apts and adjacent customers.
While in Machakos county, the whole of Ilpolosat Ex Konza, part of Konza City, Konza Boreholes, Prof. Mbithi’s Residence, Konza ABC Secondary, Konza Railway, Ilpolosat and adjacent customers will experience the planned outage from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
According to the latest advisory by the utility company, the scheduled power interruption in Busia County will affect customers in part of Busia Town, Busia Weigh Bridge, Police Headquarters, Busia Law Court, Alupe, Amerikwai, Atongos, Anorom, Mukura, Malaba Town, Ochude, Bugengi, and adjacent customers
The outage in Busia County will start from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Similarly, in Kakamega County, the 9:00 am to 5:00 pm outage will affect residents in Shikoti Market, Shikhoti Mission, Tumaini, Ebutenje, Esumeiya and adjacent customers.
The 8:00 am to 5:00 pm outage in Nyeri County will affect customers and businesses that depend on electricity in Kiambara Market, Kirigu Coffee Factory, Gatina Market, Gakuyu Secondary School, Mukangu Dispensary, Mukangu Market, Mukangu Coffee Factory, Gatina Village, Konyu Two Plots, Matira-ini Primary School, and Matira-ini Village.
Kiamabara Market, Mungetho Market, Karema-ini Booster, Ihiga Village, Kieni Coffee Factory, Kieni Village, Kagumo-ini Coffee Factory, Mt. Carmel Secondary School, Gathugu Coffee Factory, Gathugu Market, Gaiti Village, Ruharu Village, Munengere Village, Gaturiri Coffee Factory, Gaturiri Market, Kahara DEB, Gachiara Village, Kiamabara Dispensary, Safaricom Boosters, Airtel Boosters.
Kimondo, Kihuti, Kiangondu, Thangathi, Kiuu, Ujamaa and adjacent customers.
In Murang’a County, the planned power blackout will affect customers in part of Kenol, Ex Makuyu Feeder-Kimororu Spur, Kenol DC’s Office, Githanji Estate, Kimorori Market, Kamigwa and adjacent customers from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
In the advisory, Kenya Power also listed parts of Kirinyaga County that will experience the outage from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; the areas include Siberia, Karaba, Thome Ciagiini, Gategi, Marurumo, Wango Riakanau, Siberia, Kiandegwa, Nganga, Thome, Karaba, Ciagiini, Gatwiri, Kwivota, Maviani, Gategi, Kaseve, Kathiani, Bonzuki, Kakindu, Kakawa, Gikuru, Marurumo, Ndindiruku, Kiumbu, Wango, Nthingiini, Maalikiini, Musingiini, Kilia, Riakanau Vlgs/Mrts. Farm Works, Karaba & Wango Missions. Karaba, Gategi, Nganga Sec School and adjacent customers.

In Meru County, the planned blackout will affect customers in Embori, Kibirichia, Kisima, Muruguma Market, Naari Market, Naari Girls, Gitimene Market, Gathuine Mkt, Mchogomone, Kirigo, Runkuru, Market Kigure Market Gatobora, Nyayo Tea Zone, Old Minas, Bible Baptist, Office of the Women Rep, Nkuriga Booster, Murinya, BBM Academy, Embori, Kisima Farm, Uhuru Farm, Wangu Farm, Blooming Dale, PJ Dave Farm, School of Adventure, Kisima Girls, Kisima Hotel, Uhuru Flowers and adjacent customers from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
While in Kiambu County, the 9:00 am to 5:00 pm blackout will affect customers in Kenchick, Kilimambogo, Ndula Market, Magogoni, Ngoliba, Makutano, Kenchic, Rubiru, Helena Quarry, Kilimambogo Teachers, Matathia, Kiboko Farm, Chui Rapid, Ndonyo, Sabuk, Makawa Dam, Parts of Delmonte, Baragu Holdings, Kahonoki, Wapa School, Ndula Market, Lembeni, Rubiru Secondary and adjacent customers.
According to Kenya Power, the planned 9:00 am to 5:00 pm blackout in Kitui County is set to affect residents in Ngalange, Usueni, Wikithuki Irrigation Scheme, Ngalange, Musavani, Kyenini, Wikithuki Irrigation, Wikithuki Border Police Kaningo, Usueni, Wikithuki, Kyamalutu and adjacent customers.
Similarly, the September 2 blackout will also affect part of Kilifi County from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The areas that will experience the outage include Ngala area, Ngala Phase 1, Ngala Phase 2, 3, 4 & 5, Sabasaba, Muyeye Dispensary, Malindi Bus Park, Maweni ACK and adjacent customers.
