Kenya has confirmed three more coronavirus cases bringing the national total to 31, Health Chief Administrative Secretary Mercy Mwangangi has announced.

Dr. Mwangangi said that the 31 cases are spread out in five counties with the new cases being close contacts of those previously confirmed.

The patients have already been taken into isolation and tracing of contacts is ongoing.

The new confirmed cases are all Kenyans, two from Kilifi County and one from Nairobi.

Dr. Mwangangi said that the three cases are all women who are aged between 31 and 61 years.

The tests were conducted in various laboratories, namely: The National Influenza Centre, Kemri Nairobi and Kemri Weclome Trust Kilifi.

“The total number of close contacts we have so far stands at 1,029. Out of this number, 123 of them have been discharged after completing the 14-day follow up period. We are now remaining with 906 close contacts that our contact tracing teams are monitoring,” said Dr. Mwangangi.

But the government urged counties to relay information about confirmed coronavirus cases to the national response team to avoid confusion.

The Health ministry also reemphasized the need for Kenyans to minimise the amount of close contact with others, saying it reduces the chances of catching and spreading the coronavirus disease.
