KeNHA announces 2-month closure of Rironi-Kamandura interchange
By Nancy Marende, August 19, 2025The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of the Rironi/Kamandura Interchange at the junction of Waiyaki Way, Limuru Road, and Mai Mahiu Road to allow for major road reconstruction.
In a notice on August 19, 2025, KeNHA revealed that the closure will run from Friday, August 22, 2025, to Friday, October 31, 2025.
“This is due to scheduled road works for reconstruction of the Rironi/Kamandura Interchange, including slip roads, loops and approach roads, from Friday, August 22, 2025, to Friday, October 31, 2025,” read the notice in part.
To ease movement, KeNHA has provided alternative routes for motorists:
- Traffic from A8 (Waiyaki Way) to Mai Mahiu (A8 South) will join the Old Naivasha Road just after Rubis Tilisi and proceed straight to Mai Mahiu.
- Traffic from Mai Mahiu/A8 South to Nairobi will turn at Mutarakwa Junction onto Limuru Road and proceed to join A8 (Waiyaki Way) at Kwa Mbira Flyover.
- Traffic from Ruaka/Ndenderu/Kabuku will proceed to Limuru Town and join the highway (A8) at Kwa Mbira Flyover.
- Through traffic along the highway to and from Kamandura, the Kimende-Naivasha road (A8) remains unchanged.
Further, KeNHA has advised motorists to follow the traffic management plan, project road signs and cooperate with police and traffic marshals on site.
Marigat–Loruk Road
Additionally, the agency has issued another public notice on traffic disruption along the Marigat–Loruk (B17) Road near its intersection with the Marigat–Kabarnet (B16) Road.
According to KeNHA, the disruption, scheduled from Friday, August 22, 2025, to Tuesday, February 17, 2026, is to facilitate the construction of a box culvert on the affected section.
KeNHA stated that traffic will be directed to share lanes since some lanes will be closed during the construction period.
“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the traffic management plan, project road signs and cooperate with police and traffic marshals on site,” read the notice.
This comes a few weeks after President William Ruto declared Kiambu County the top recipient of national funding for road construction, citing a record Ksh40 billion allocation for key infrastructure projects.
Speaking during a service in Limuru, Kiambu County, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, the President said Ksh22 billion had been set aside for the road from Pangani to Ndumberi, whose contract was recently announced, funded through resources sourced from China.
Additionally, he stated that another Ksh20 billion has been allocated for the Ruaka–Ruiru bypass, bringing the total to Ksh40 billion for Kiambu alone.
