Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (Kemsa) anticipates suffering at least Sh2.3 billion loss from personal protective equipment deadstock.

The agency’s commercial director, Dr. George Walukana, revealed this to the National Assembly’s Health Committee when the lawmakers visited its warehouses on Tuesday, September 22.

But according to the Health Committee’s Chairperson, Sabina Chege, Kemsa is likely to suffer a higher loss since they have Sh6.1 billion of PPE stock that no one wants to purchase.

She said Kemsa bought PPEs worth Sh7.2 billion in anticipation that coronavirus cases would spike but other suppliers flooded the market, pushing prices down.

Chege said that Kemsa only managed to offload to the market PPEs worth Sh1 billion.
