Karungo Thang’wa visits Kimani Ichung’wah’s Family for memorial of late father

Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa, on Sunday, September 7, 2025, joined the family of National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah at their Kikuyu home for a memorial service in honour of Ichung’wah’s late father, Mzee Ngugi.

In a statement shared on his official X account, Thang’wa described the event as a moment of solidarity with the Ichung’wah family, noting that Mzee Ngugi had lived a fulfilling life whose impact continues to be felt.

“Earlier today, I joined the family of Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah at his home in Kikuyu for a service in remembrance of his late dad, Mzee Ngugi. It was a moment of prayer, reflection, and solidarity with the family as we honoured a life well lived and the legacy he left behind. May his soul continue to rest in eternal peace,” he said.

Mzee Ngugi’s death

His death was first announced by the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on Thursday, September 4, 2025, in a statement shared via his official social media channels.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the Kikuyu MP and Leader of Majority, Hon. @KIMANIICHUNGWAH, following the passing of their patriarch, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wa Ngugi,” Wetang’ula stated.

According to Wetang’ula, Mzee Ngugi passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Kikuyu home, having lived a remarkable 105 years.

“Mzee Ngugi, who passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Kikuyu home, lived a remarkable 105 years. As we celebrate a life well lived, we pray that his lasting impact will continue to be felt and his legacy cherished for generations to come. May the fond memories of his century-long journey bring comfort to his family during this time of grief. Rest in peace, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wa Ngugi,” Wetang’ula wrote on X.

Condolence messages

President William Ruto has led Kenyans in mourning the passing of Mzee Isaac Ngugi.

“Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends for the passing of Mzee Isaac Ngugi, the father of Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah. He was an industrious and astute businessman and one of the brains that founded of Kikuyu Town,” Ruto wrote.

“Mzee touched many lives through his many transformative initiatives that supported the vulnerable. His legacy will live on. Rest In Peace, Mzee.”

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi also conveyed his condolence message to the bereaved family.

“My heartfelt condolences to the family of Hon. Kimani Ichung’wa, Leader of Majority, on the passing of your beloved father, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wah Ngugi. May God grant you peace, comfort, and strength during this difficult time. May his memory be a blessing to you and your family, “Sudi wrote.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also sent his condolence message. “I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the family of my dear friend Hon. @KIMANIICHUNGWAH, the Leader of Majority in the National Assembly, following the passing of his father, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wah Ngugi. My prayers are with you and your family during these difficult times. Poleni sana.”

“Deeply saddened by the passing of Mzee Isaac Ichung’wa Ngugi, the beloved father of my friend and Majority Leader, Hon. @KIMANIICHUNGWAH. At 105 years, Mzee lived a truly remarkable life, a noble elder, a pillar of wisdom, and an inspiration to many. On my own behalf and that of my family, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Hon. Ichung’wah and his family. May Mzee’s legacy live on and his soul rest in eternal peace,” William Kabogo wrote.
