Kaluma: No inducement was needed to remove Gachagua from office

By , August 27, 2025

Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament (MP)  Peter Kaluma has dismissed allegations by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that Members of Parliament and Senators were bribed to support his impeachment, saying the claims are false and self-serving.

In a statement on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Kaluma said no legislator needed inducement to back Gachagua’s removal, arguing that the impeachment was a constitutional duty to protect the nation from divisive leadership.

“I watched Gachagua lie that MPs were bribed to impeach him. Who would need payment to remove dirt from his body? Impeaching Gachagua was a sacred national duty. No one would allow him to purvey ethnic and regional exclusion from the platform of a public office. God bless Hon. Mutuse,” Kaluma said, commending Mwala MP Vincent Mutuse, who chaired the impeachment proceedings.

His remarks came shortly after the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader accused President William Ruto during an interview with the local TV station on August 26, 2025, of orchestrating his ouster through what he described as a “corruption-fuelled process.”

“William Ruto has no moral authority at all to talk about corruption in Parliament because he is the one who has corrupted Parliament day in and day out. William Ruto pays Parliament for anything he wants to happen. As for the Finance Bill, he paid MPs Ksh200,000,” he stated.

“My own impeachment had nothing to do with gross violations of the Constitution, nothing to do with issues that were raised there. MPs were paid Ksh500,000 while members of the Senate were paid Ksh10 million each to impeach me,” Gachagua added.

This comes a few months after Gachagua stated that his removal from office turned out to be a blessing both for him and the people of Kenya.

Speaking during a public engagement with Kenyans in Dallas on Sunday, August 3, 2025, Gachagua, who seems to have come to terms with the ouster, said that looking back, his removal from office turned out to be a positive thing.

“Today, when I look back, I think my being removed from office was a blessing to me and the people of Kenya,” Gachagua said.
