A middle-aged man from Kakamega is receiving treatment at a private hospital in the county after he was scalded with boiling water by his wife and sister-in-law early this week.

The incident that happened at the couple’s house in Kakamega Town left the victim nursing burn injuries to the face, stomach and private parts.

It is alleged that the victim’s wife, who is in her late 30s, and his sister-in-law (the spouse of the victim’s brother) ganged up and attacked the middle-aged man with boiling water, accusing him of adultery.

Gender affairs officer in Kakamega County, Penina Mukabane, while visiting the victim, a primary school teacher, at hospital on Wednesday, June 3, condemned the incident, urging couples to seek amicable ways of resolving their marital differences.

“I urge law enforcement officers to arrest the suspects and charge them in court for causing grievous bodily harm to the poor man,” said Mukabane.

The victim, who is in his mid-40s, has, however, stated that he won’t seek legal redress against the mother of his two children.

“I want a divorce, nothing else,” he told K24 Digital from his hospital bed.

Human rights activist, Aggrey Majimbo, urged men to speak out and seek help when they become victims of domestic violence.
