Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, led the section of Azimio’s side in occupying the Majority side following a high court ruling.

Speaking on the floor of the house, Junet expressed joy following the court ruling which declared Azimio the Majority side arguing that the verdict needed to be effected immediately.

Amid confusion in the house, Junet maintained that he was comfortable leading the Majority side in line with the court’s ruling.

“I am privileged to speak from the seat of the Majority Leader. Even when I sat on the seat it is very warm, unlike mine which was very cold. I don’t foresee myself leaving this seat anytime soon,” Junet said in the National Assembly.

Obey court order

In his submission, Junet implored the House to implement the court decision or file a petition to contest the ruling. The vocal MP remarked that the house could not assume the ruling as it could set a bad precedent to the country.

Citing other developed democracies, Junet told his colleagues that the ruling side did not have to occupy the Majority side to push for the implementation of their business.

He further went on to cite the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua insisting that it was justified on constitutionality grounds.

“As you are aware and have alluded we have a court ruling consisting of three judges. A court ruling has only two decisions, there is no third way about it. One is to obey it and second is to exercise that right of appeal.

“We went to court for it to interpret the constitutionality of who is the Majority Party and who is the Minority Party. Likely the court has made its ruling albeit late, the decision has said Azimio is the Majority side in Parliament,” Junet added.

I am capable

While vowing to occupy the seat until a decision is made, Junet told his colleagues that he was capable of leading the Majority side professionally.

“I am capable of doing that work, I have the capacity, qualifications, capabilities, I have the numbers and I have everything it takes to lead the Majority side,” Junet insisted.

Reacting to Junet sentiments, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula argued that the court did not specifically name the new Majority side. Wetang’ula noted that the ruling observed he only erred in his decision.

“The court has not declared any party the Majority. Convince the house who is the majority and the speaker will make a ruling,” Wetang’ula argued.
