Journalists have been kicked out of a Senate Committee meeting where Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang’i and Inspector-General of Police (IG) Hillary Mutyambai are being questioned over the arrest of three senators.

The meeting started at 10 am just after the Interior CS Matiangi and IG Mutyambai arrived at the Senate.

Journalists who had arrived in Parliament were ordered out by the chairman of the National Security Committee, Yusuf Haji.

The security chiefs are being grilled over the dramatic arrest of Senators Cleophas Malala (Kakamega), Christopher Lang’at (Bomet), and Stephen Lelegwe (Samburu) under unclear circumstances.

The three senators were later released, with two of them having been taken on long tours to their respective counties.

Their arrest drew widespread condemnation, including from Orange Democractic Movement leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto.
