Jaoko, who is the president’s special advisor on economic empowerment and sustainable livelihoods, stated that Dr Oburu is one of the founding members of the ODM party and has grown with it to understand the principles and values of the party.
“He might be Baba’s brother, but he has been there in that party step by step; he is a founding member and a trustee, and as you can see, even the warring parties, he has brought them together. I know his wisdom and patience, and I am seeing a good future for the ODM party,” he said.
While addressing the Bunge la Wananchi, Jaoko announced that he has taken over as the patron of the Bunge la Wananchi in the country from the late Raila Odinga and seeks to utilise his position in government to focus on the economic liberation of the members.
He called on the young people to embrace unity and remain focused on the ideals of nationhood that will enable the country to move in the right direction.

Oburu endorsement
This comes after ODM formally endorsed the Siaya County Senator Oburu Oginga as the new party leader following the death of Raila Odinga.
The announcement was made on Monday, October 27, 2025, after a Central Committee meeting held at the party headquarters, marking the first official communication since Raila’s passing.
The committee, led by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, described the endorsement as a unifying decision meant to preserve party stability and ensure a smooth transition during what it termed as one of the most difficult moments in the party’s two-decade history.
“The party remains strong and steadfast in all its obligations and will rise stronger from adversity. This being the first meeting of the committee since the passing of the party leader, the top party organ resolved as follows: “That we endorse Hon. Dr Oburu Oginga as the new party leader,” a statement released after the meeting read in part.
According to the press statement signed by Sifuna, the Central Committee urged all ODM members, officials, and supporters across the country to accord Oburu full support and cooperation.
