It is Sh700,000 fine for MCA who took Sh1.7m bribe, court rules
By K24 Editorial, February 25, 2021Karen MCA David Mberia is set to serve three years in jail or in the alternative pay a fine of Sh700,000 for taking a bribe of Sh1.7 million from a private school owner.
The sentence was handed out by Nairobi Chief Magistrate Thomas Nyioki who found the Nairobi MCA guilty of the offense beyond a reasonable doubt.
Mberia and his co-accused MCAs, who were acquitted, were accused of soliciting and receiving the money from a private school owner, Maina Kiragu, to help solve a land dispute.
While convicting Mberia, the magistrate said that the charge of asking for a bribe which was expressed in Sheng was proved through the testimony from investigating officer.
“The word was used in a clever way to request for a bribe of mita moja,” ruled Nyioki.
The court also noted that Mberia was in contact with the treated money.
