The seven suspects who were charged with robbery with violence over Sh72 million bank heist in Nairobi West have been freed on bond.

Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi freed each of the accused on Sh1 million bond with two sureties.

The magistrate also referred their torture claims to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority for further investigations.

This is after their lawyer, Cliff Ombeta, said the suspects were tortured while in police custody.

” The fifth accused was taken next to Windsor hHotel by the Flying Squad then the plastic paper was wrapped around his head. A tape was used to suffocate my client,” Ombeta told the court.

The magistrate also ordered the suspects to deposit their passports with the court.
