The Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has directed for escort of fuel tankers by the police during the night hours for the next 72 hours starting today, Thursday, April 14 to Saturday, April 16 from 6 PM and 6 AM.
In a statement to the Press, Police Spokesperson Bruno Ishioso said this is one of the measures that will be used to curb the difficulties being experienced by Kenyans during the shortage of fuel.
“The National Police has taken cognisance of the persistent situation and has joined other state actors in providing a solution to alleviate the difficulties experienced.
“As part of the mitigation measures, the Inspector General of Police has directed the police to provide free movement and escort all fuel transport tankers during the night for the next 72 hours between 6 pm-6 am starting (Thursday- Saturday),” part of the statement read.
He further directed the police to offer security to the local petrol stations Countrywide.
The directive comes after the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum through the Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma assured that normalcy shall be back in the next 72 hours and the fuel shortage crisis shall have been solved.
“I confirm that hoarding is taking place. It is criminal and amounts to economic sabotage. We hope that the supply and demand will correct themselves in the next 72 hours after fuel prices have been announced,” CS stated.
She said that the government through the ministry has had successful; meetings with the Oil marketers.
