IEBC reports over 90K new voters in ongoing registration drive
By Aloys Michael, November 2, 2025The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that over 90,000 new voters have been registered across the country as part of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, signaling steady progress in efforts to update the national voter roll ahead of upcoming by-elections.
In a statement released on Sunday, November 2, 2025, the electoral body said that as of October 31, 2025, a total of 90,020 new voters had been added to the voter register.
“The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), in fulfilment of its constitutional mandate under Article 88(4), continues to facilitate Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) across all its 290 constituencies offices nationwide,” the statement read in part.

The electoral body said in addition, 15,619 voters had transferred their registration to preferred polling stations, while 188 updates had been made to correct or adjust existing voter details.
“As at 31st October 2025, the cumulative progress of the ongoing CVR exercise is as follows: a. Newly registered voters: 90,020, transfers: 15,619, and updates: 188 detailed county-by-county breakdown of the registration statistics is annexed to this release,” IEBC wrote.
The announcement comes amid growing concerns over voter apathy, with many stations recording a few on no voter registration turnout for the 2027 General Elections.
However, the Commission reiterated its commitment to maintaining a credible and up-to-date voter register, a key pillar for free and fair elections.

IEBC call to action
“A credible and up-to-date voter register remains the cornerstone of free, fair, and transparent elections,” the IEBC stated.
“The Commission urges all stakeholders, including political parties, civil society, faith-based organizations, and the media, to support this national exercise by encouraging eligible citizens to register, verify their details, or transfer to their preferred polling stations.”
At the same time, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon emphasised that the voter registration process is continuous and open to all eligible Kenyans who have attained the age of 18 and possess a valid national identification.
He said the Commission was pleased with the steady progress, noting that more citizens are taking advantage of the opportunity to register or update their details.
“The Commission notes steady progress as more citizens take advantage of this opportunity to register as new voters, transfer their registration to preferred polling stations, or update their details where necessary,” Ethekon said.
