Ichung’wah warns opposition: Ruto should not be your political agenda
By Paulette Mboga, October 5, 2025National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has hit out at the opposition, accusing them of lacking a clear agenda and using President William Ruto’s name to stay relevant in politics.
Speaking during a public event on Saturday, October 4, 2025, Ichung’wah said the opposition has shifted its focus from presenting ideas that can move the country forward to attacking the President.

Ichungwa said the habit of insulting and criticising the Head of State will not win anyone leadership positions. He described such politics as backward and divisive, warning that Kenyans are tired of leaders who thrive on hate speech and personal attacks.
According to Ichungwa, the opposition is wasting time on empty rhetoric rather than offering solutions to issues affecting ordinary citizens. He claimed that their politics are intended to distract the government from fulfilling its promises to Kenyans.
Calls for issue-based politics
Ichung’wah referenced a recent political event in Kajiado where, he claimed, some opposition figures mocked local leaders instead of discussing development.
“Kazi yao ni kutukana Ruto. Siasa duni za kuturudisha nyuma. Nimeona juzi wameenda Kajiado. Mwingine anauliza eti Kasongo wapi? Watu wa Kajiado wakamwambia tutam. Si muliona? Wakija hapa waseme Kasongo, mtasema nini?” he said.

He said that the Kenya Kwanza government remains focused on development and serving Kenyans through well-planned programs and economic reforms.
“Sisi hatuna ubaya na mtu yeyote lakini tunawauliza kwa heshima — William Ruto si agenda za kuendesha siasa zenu. Matusi sio agenda ya siasa. Ukitaka kutafuta kiti ya kuwa rais, tafuta agenda, vile sisi tuko na agenda,” he added.
The Majority Leader emphasised that politics should be driven by ideas, not personal attacks. “We have no problem with anyone,” he said, “but we ask with respect. William Ruto should not be your political agenda. Insults are not an agenda. If you want to run for president, come up with a proper plan like we did.”

Ichung’wah’s message was firm that leaders should focus on policies and solutions, not personalities. He urged politicians to rise above petty politics and engage in meaningful debates that help move the country forward.
He concluded by calling for unity and respect among political players, reminding them that leadership is about service, not insults or constant criticism.
