Details of how detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Monday morning nabbed a man in Mathare Police Depot who lured a minor into his house and lived with her for weeks can now be revealed.

Marcos Menza Masumbuko, 23, On Sunday, October 11, 2020, lured the minor aged 13 years after he introduced himself as a teacher who would be tutoring her online.

The minor then left her home in Upper Hill area after getting permission from her mother, claiming that she was going to play with her friends.

The minor’s father, SH, on Monday said that they had already planned with his only daughter that they would depart to Nyakach where she schools a day earlier.

“She was to go to school on Monday and we had agreed that we shall leave very early but this was never to be,” the girl’s father recounted.

Two months before her disappearance, the minor had enrolled to free online classes on the internet, a platform run by people who introduced themselves as teachers.

Her father said that the minor was always locked up in her room and would tell them that she was busy studying.

“I could always make a follow-up and felt proud as she was always studying which gave me a lot of morale as a parent,” her father said.

Helu said that at some point the said teacher even delivered examination papers at his home and asked his daughter to take the test.

He said that the teacher, who was marking the paper, even delivered the results in which he jotted down his phone number in case the minor had any further questions.

A few days later, SH said that he spotted her daughter around the Kenya National Library located in Upper Hill in the company of an adult male and when he questioned her about it, she refused to give a proper explanation.

However, she later told her mother, VH, that the person was a friend’s brother, who was once their neighbor at Lucky Summer estate in Kariobangi.

The parents reported the matter at Kenyatta National Hospital police station where detectives picked up the matter.

Investigations revealed that she had constant communicated with the main suspect, who later facilitated her escape to Nyakach when he realized that they were being trailed.

“The suspect facilitated the minor’s escape to her aunt’s place in Nyakach, Kisumu County. In a bid to evade arrest, the suspect, aka Vasco, disguised himself by shaving his dreadlocks immediately a missing child report was published,” a report by the DCI read in part.

On Monday, a detective privy to the investigation attached to KNH police station said that police were still pursuing two more suspects over the matter.
