Armed robbers raided Prime Bank Mombasa Road on Monday afternoon and carried two cash boxes containing unknown amount of cash.

The six robbers also disarmed two officers attached to the Administration Police’s Critical Infrastructure Police Unit (CIPU) Langata who were guarding the bank.

Embakasi Sub-County police boss said the robbers entered Hypermat and Ramtons premises near City Cabanas/Kyangombe exchange at around 2.45pm.

They then confronted Corporal Mohammed Hassan and Corporal Eunice Syengo before disarming them of the Scorpion with a total of 30 rounds of ammunition.

The Prime Bank Chief Security officer, Ephantus Mwaniki, said a bank’s lorry registration number KCR 219J Isuzu NKR was driven to the premises and parked at the compound.

The six robbers, all armed with pistols, then confronted the officers and after disarming them they confronted one of the bank tellers, Peter Kimanthi, from whom they took an unknown amount of cash.

“The robbers then entered the mobile Prime Bank banking truck registration number KCR 219J and took away two cash cassettes (boxes) containing unknown amount of money,” Embakasi police boss said.

Two of them then escaped in a motorcycle whose registration number was not captured. Police said the other four escaped on foot to unknown destination.

During the incident, one of the security guards identified as Geoffrey Kipleting was slightly injured.
