Homa Bay County government has procured personal protective equipment (PPEs) worth Sh3.8 million to shield health-care workers from contracting coronavirus disease.
The items procured by the county government included face shields, N95 masks, gloves, aprons and goggles among others.
Speaking to KNA while unveiling the consignment on Saturday, the County Director of Health Services Dr. Gordon Okomo said that the equipment would be distributed to all health facilities in all the eight sub-counties, including the county isolation center at Malela health center in Ndhiwa Sub County.
Dr. Okomo reiterated that the equipment would assist the county healthcare workers who are handling suspected Covid-19 cases in the area.
The director said the shortage of the protective gear had left doctors, nurses and other frontline workers ill-equipped to handle Covid-19 suspects.
Meanwhile, Dr. Okomo revealed that the county would also receive another consignment of the PPEs courtesy of different health partners operating within the County
