Highest number of COVID-19 cases in one day as Nairobi estates produce worrying figures

Kenya registered 389 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, July 4, pushing the country’s total tally to 7, 577, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe says.

The 389 infections were discovered in 4, 829 samples tested between Friday and Saturday.

Three hundred and eighty six (386) of the new cases were recorded among Kenyan nationals, whereas three were foreigners.

Two hundred and sixty six (266) of the 389 new infections were registered among male patients, whereas 123 were female.

The youngest new patient is 1-year-old, whereas the oldest is 93 years old.

Nairobi produced 248 of the new cases, followed by Kajiado County, which posted 36 new infections.

Other counties that recorded new COVID-19 infections include: Kiambu (27), Mombasa (23), Busia (17), Machakos (10), Migori (9), Kitui (6), Makueni (3), Uasin-Gishu (3), Nakuru (2), Kilifi (2), Garissa, Murang’a and Narok counties with one case each.

In Nairobi, the 248 cases were registered in the following estates: Dagoretti North (55), Kibra (40), Lang’ata (33), Ruaraka (17), Westlands (14), Embakasi East (13), Makadara (13), Roysambu (11), Embakasi South and Kasarani (8 each), Mathare, Starehe, Embakasi Central and Embakasi West (7 cases each), Embakasi North (5) and Kamukunji (3).

Eighty eight (88) patients recovered from the contagion, pushing the total number of COVID-19 recoveries in Kenya to 2, 236.

However, five more patients succumbed to the disease, raising the toll to 159.

Kenya has thus far tested 185, 035 samples for COVID-19.
