Governor Guyo speaks after fire kills woman and her 4 children in Isiolo
By Francis Muli, July 17, 2025Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has issued a strong statement condemning the politicisation of recent tragic incidents in the county, urging leaders to prioritise peace, justice, and responsible dialogue during what he described as “a time of mourning and healing.”
The Governor’s remarks follow a string of emotionally charged events that have left the county reeling, among them the devastating arson attack that claimed the lives of Halima Ware and her four children.
Preliminary police investigations have linked the incident to a domestic dispute, with reports confirming that Halima had previously reported threats to her life.
“This heartbreaking incident has shaken us all. It is disheartening that such a painful moment is being misused for political gain,” Guyo stated.
Guyo has also addressed the death of Ismail Abdikadir, a prominent local blogger who succumbed to injuries after a hit-and-run accident involving a lorry. Guyo says, despite eyewitness accounts and confirmation from police that the incident was a traffic accident, he is concerned about attempts by certain individuals to link the incident to his administration.
“There is no evidence supporting such claims, and spreading such misinformation only deepens divisions,” he stated.
Rising insecurity
Isiolo has witnessed a recent spike in isolated killings, which have heightened public anxiety. The governor assured residents that investigations are underway and those found culpable will face justice.
“We stand with every family affected and remain committed to restoring security and peace,” he affirmed.
He has also strongly criticised Senator Fatuma Dullo for remarks made in the Senate earlier in the day, in which she linked the spate of violence to the recent impeachment attempt against the governor.
He called the Senator’s remarks “irresponsible and misleading,” particularly taking issue with her attack on County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding, whom he praised as a professional and dedicated public servant.
“Undermining our security apparatus without evidence weakens public confidence and endangers the very stability we all seek to protect,” Guyo warned.
“What Isiolo needs is healing, not division,” he said. “I urge leaders to speak with responsibility and truth. My focus remains on safeguarding our people, upholding justice, and preserving peace across our great county.”
