Kiambu Governor James Nyoro has pleaded with ward representatives to stop unnecessary politicking over plot to impeach Speaker Stephen Ndichu.

Instead, Governor Nyoro told the MCAs to focus on service delivery for the remainder of their five-year term.

While defending Speaker Ndichu, who is one of his key allies, Dr. Nyoro said ward representatives should devise better ways of dispute resolution.

At the center of Ndichu’s impeachment motion is a row on the use of the annual Sh1.2 billion that the assembly receives for its recurrent expenditure from the National Treasury.

The MCAs, led by Kiuu Ward Representative Dan Ngugi who moved the motion, suspect that the money was irregularly used by Ndichu and his close allies.

In the impeachment motion, Ngugi cited abuse of office, skewed appointments to the Executive, irregular hiring, and firing of clerks targeting staff critical of his leadership style.

Ndichu has also been accused of alleged incompetence, violation of the Constitution, and refusal to allow the public access to information.

So far, Ngugi says he has secured 69 signatures to file a notice of the motion with the clerk of the county assembly on Tuesday.

But speaking while receiving food donations from Visa Oshwal, the Thika Indian community, and Thika District Business Association, Nyoro insisted that there is a lot of work to do in terms of infrastructural development, feeding hunger-stricken residents and empowerment of the people, which cannot be achieved amidst supremacy battles.

He took issue with the MCAs who have been pushing the motion for taking the county back to bad politicking that he said was not helpful to the common citizenry.

Nyoro further accused a section of MCAs of using fake signatures to push the motion that he said was maliciously sponsored to disrepute the Speaker.

He said that he was in talks with a section of the MCAs who have promised to disregard the motion to allow his government to deliver in the remaining two years of his term.

His sentiments were echoed by Kamenu Ward MCA Raphael Chege who also promised to overlook the motion to allow Ndichu to complete his term.

During the event, over 500 families were given food rations that would last them for three months, donations that were made under the Adopt a Village Program.
