Baringo Senator Gideon Moi on Sunday hosted several Rift Valley leaders at his family home in Kabarak as the battle for control of the region ahead 2022 elections rages.

The leaders visited retired President Daniel Moi and then proceeded for a closed-door meeting with the Baringo senator.

Among those present at the meeting were: Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos, Kanu Secretary-General Nick Salat, Moiben MP Silas Tiren, former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, businessman cum politician Bundotich Buzeki and Tiaty MP William Kamket, nominated MP Wilson Sossion, and former MPs Zakayo Cheruiyot, Musa Sirma and Frankline Bett.

Reports indicated that the leaders discussed several issues concerning the region, including welfare of Rift Valley farmers, peace in Kerio Valley and the region’s political trends.

Sunday’s closed-door meeting can be mooted as Moi’s bid to solidify his home support, with an eye on the 2022 General Election.

The Baringo senator has been busy touring the region, a move that political commentators say is aimed at regaining the region’s support.

Gideon Moi is steadily garnering support, in his bid to weaken Deputy President William Ruto’s support base in the vote-rich Rift Valley region.

DP Ruto, on the other hand, seems to be making more inroads into Baringo County, a place considered to be Moi’s stronghold.
