Gachagua urges Trump to issue red alerts against Ruto
By David Nthua, August 7, 2025DCP boss Rigathi Gachagua has requested the Donald Trump-led government to impose red alerts on William Ruto.
Speaking during an engagement with Kenyans living in the U.S. on Thursday, August 7, 2025, Gachagua made a direct appeal to the American government.
He asked them not to impose economic sanctions on Kenya but instead take individual action targeting President Ruto.
Accusations of police brutality
Gachagua said he had been with senior U.S. leaders last Sunday when they watched a live feed from Murang’a County, where police officers were reportedly beating elected leaders while shielding armed criminals.
“The other day, when I was here, I was with senior leaders in the U.S. last Sunday, and we watched a live meeting taking place in Murang’a County, where police officers were beating leaders and protecting armed goons, and these American leaders could not believe police could work with goons,” Gachagua said.

Protect Kenyans, not Ruto
He further told the gathering that the evidence of state-sponsored violence had already reached the American government and should not be ignored.
“William Ruto, that evidence is here in America. You cannot run away with it,” Gachagua declared.
He insisted that ordinary citizens should not bear the brunt of the political crisis in the country.
“Our request to the American government is that do not punish Kenya. All we are asking the American government to do when you confirm all these concerns, and help us.
“Do not have sanctions on the people of Kenya as a country; please impose sanctions on William Ruto as a person. Kenyans should not suffer because of one person,” Gachagua said.
Also, Gachagua, who has recently intensified his global lobbying campaign, appealed directly to President Trump’s administration to treat Kenyans fairly while taking stern action against what he termed as “individual impunity.”
He said the opposition movement he leads is not against Kenya as a state, but against injustice and bloodshed allegedly facilitated by those in power.
