Gachagua shuts door on govt return even if his impeachment is reversed

By , August 7, 2025

Former DP and DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua has addressed his impeachment, revealing he has no desire to return to government should the court reverse his ouster.

He dismissed having a plan to get back to the office, possibly replace Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, and reconcile with President William Ruto.

Gachagua, who spoke during a public rally in the U.S. on Thursday, August 7, 2025, said he is not interested in returning to any government office.

He added that even if the court were to overturn his impeachment and reinstate him, he would still not go back.

Cannot serve with Ruto

“To that person who asked what my game plan now that I am impeached and I cannot vie for any office, let me say this: the Constitution is very clear that unless all legal grounds are exhausted, I remain the next president in waiting,” Gachagua said.

He added that he would not fight to return to the Deputy President’s office, especially not under President William Ruto, whom he described as a “pathological liar.”

“I, Kasongo and working together is like mixing water and oil. I cannot serve under someone I don’t trust,” he said amid cheers from the crowd.

Only wants his rights upheld

The former DP  insisted that what he wants is not political accommodation or a position, but justice and the restoration of his constitutional rights as a citizen.

“Even if the courts asked me to go back to the office, I won’t. That chapter is closed. What I want now is for my rights to be granted and my name cleared,” he said.

In the strongest language yet, Gachagua ruled out any possibility of working with President Ruto again, saying their paths had completely diverged.

“I cannot and won’t even dream of working with Ruto again. What we had ended long ago,” he stated.

He did not, however, reveal whether he would be fronting another candidate or running for president himself in 2027.
