Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed condolences to Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza following the death of her brother, Eric Kimanthi.
Mwangaza’s brother passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025, after a prolonged illness, prompting an outpouring of tributes from leaders.
Gachagua is the latest politician to offer his support to the governor and her family.
“To the Governor of Meru County, Bishop Kawira Mwangaza, and your entire family, my deepest sympathies on the passing on of your dear brother Eric Kimathi (Steroo).
“I share in your pain and the grief of the young family, Mr. Kimathi leaves behind. My prayers and heart go to you at this difficult moment.
“May the Lord God Almighty rest the Soul of Eric Kimathi in peace and eternal rest grant him,” Gachagua posted in his X account.
Last Friday, Mwangaza broke the news of his brother passing through his social media pages.
“Devastated to announce the death of my beloved brother Erick Kimathi (Stero) today Morning 10 January 2025 after a long illness. So valiantly you fought. May Almighty God Rest his soul in eternal peace. Burial Saturday 18th January 2025 at Mathagiro Village Timau Buuri,” Mwangaza message on Facebook read.
In his message of solace, President William Ruto mourned the loss of the Steroo describing him as a progressive and hardworking individual.
“We celebrate the life of an enterprising man with great ideas that changed the lives of many people. Eric Kimathi ‘Steroo’ — brother to Governor Kawira Mwangaza — was kind, hardworking and progressive. Our thoughts are with the family at this tough time. Rest in Peace, Steroo,” Ruto’s statement on X read.
“Condolences to you and your family, Madam Governor Hon. Kawira Mwangaza,” Jackson Okata.
“My sincere condolences, HE. Governor… it is well,” Patricia Makena.
“My condolences to the entire family and friends. Almighty God, give you the heart to endure this pain. Rip,” John Muruiki said.

The deceased burial is set for Saturday, January 18, 2025.
