Kenya Railways police on Wednesday said they have arrested four people they caught vandalizing sections of the standard gauge railway in Kajiado County.

The suspected vandals were found vandalizing the SGR bridge on Magadi Road on the way to Kiserian Sub-County.

“The vandals were loosening the guardrails on the bridge and carting away the metal pipes,” said Kenya Railways Managing Director, Philip Mainga.

Mr. Mainga warned against vandalizing the railway, saying such actions compromise the safety of SGR operations and put at risk the lives of passengers and staff.

“Any person found vandalizing railway property is guilty of a felony and
liable to prosecution,” said Mr. Mainga, who assured that the full measures of the law will be followed in handling the matter.

Following the arrest on Sunday, April 19, the suspected vandals were taken to the Railways Police Station in Nairobi awaiting arraignment and charging in court.
