A nominated MCA, Mary Ogodo, on Wednesday suffered a broken arm after she was assaulted during the chaos and fistfight that broke out in the Migori County Assembly.
The pandemonium forced sergeant-at-arms to run away with the mace, the symbol of power in the assembly, as he left the ward representatives to after the fight broke out.
The MCAs were engaged in physical fistfights and verbal altercations, throwing water bottles at each other.
Ogodo was rushed to St Joseph Mission Hospital where she was treated.
Tension started during the morning session when North Kanyamkago MCA George Omamba presented orders from Migori High Court reinstating him as the Deputy Speaker. He received the orders on Tuesday, September 22.
Omamba was impeached by his colleagues in May last year together with the assembly clerk Tom Opere and Bukira East MCA Mathews Chacha. Emmanuel Abala took over in acting capacity amid court orders.
Trouble started as five pro-Migori County Governor Okoth Obado MCAs led by Kaler MCA Thomas Akungo walked into the House which was in session and tried to disrupt the sitting as Omamba was still on the chair.
In the ensuing melee, the session was disrupted as Ogodo, who is said to be in support of the ouster, was attacked. She accused Akungo of causing the fistfight.
MCAs allied to Governor Obado and against the Orange Democratic Movement-sponsored impeachment have been brooding in the assembly since yesterday, forcing MCAs to hold a Kamukunji over simmering tensions.
