A family in Kiplokyi village in Bomet County is living in agony after their kin mysteriously disappeared while at work in Mombasa.
According to his brother Walter Ngeno, 34-year-old Ken Ngeno who was working as an engineer with NFT consult agent for Sony Erickson Company in Nairobi is believed to have been kidnapped by people known to him on February 24 this year.
Ngeno now claims that on the day that his brother went missing he sent a few messages through his Whatsaap claiming that his life was in danger.
“On the alleged day my brother was in distress, and in our Whatsaap communication he specifically said that some of his workmates were after his life since he was very close to the boss, and they wanted to silence him forever over some information he knew about,” said Ngeno.
He further claims that he was in haste to leave Mombasa and he, therefore, hired a Tuk Tuk driver who ferried him to his house in Tudor to collect a few personal items before he hurriedly left for Nairobi.
According to the Tuk-tuk driver in his statement to police, Ngeno had hired him to ferry him from his house in Tudor to Changamwe roundabout as he claimed there were people who were after his life.
“He borrowed my mobile phone and contacted his brother after he threw his phone in a nearby bush claiming that those who wanted to kill him would use his mobile phone to trace him, he received money using my phone withdrew it at Sabasaba area before he requested me to drop him at the Changamwe roundabout where he would take a bus to Nairobi,” read part of his statement.
The report over a missing person was made at Makupa police station, under OB number,33/3/3/2021.
On his part NFT operations Manager, Austin Odongo said that Ngeno is believed to have gone missing while at work in Mombasa where the company had sent its workers in the coast region to upgrade Airtel boosters in the region.
“Am aware that one of our engineers, went missing while on duty in Mombasa, he had not made any formal complaint about death threats from his workmates, however, he had formally written to me through emails that he needed a salary increase,” he said
Odongo further noted that no investigative agencies had contacted him in relation to Ngeno’s disappearance.
“I learnt of his disappearance, through his brother, we are ready to work closely with police; they are yet to contact us about his whereabouts,” said Odongo.
In a twist of events, the whereabouts of Ngeno’s girlfriend, Luthia Nyogaa Sige who was to receive Ngeno upon his arrival in Nairobi remains unknown.
“My brother was in touch with his girlfriend he even told me that they had agreed that he would host him for a few days before he left for Bomet, however after my brother disappeared she switched off her mobile phone,” said Ngeno.
Coast region police commander, Paul Ndambuki said that four witnesses including a caretaker who assisted, Geno pack his personal items, a Tuk-tuk driver and a friend who received a distress call from Ngeno had since recorded statements with the police.
“You’ve just drawn this matter to my attention, as you are aware am new here however I will ensure all stones are turned I will personally look into the progress of the investigations,” he said.
