One of the foreign investors who were allegedly swindled by the former Sports Cabinet Secretary, Rashid Echesa, is set to be shown portraits of female politicians as part of the suspects’ identification process.

As part of the identification parade, the foreigner will be shown portraits of several female politicians in a bid to identify the one who helped Mr. Echesa’s men hoodwink them over the fake Sh39 billion military hardware tender.

On Monday, the said foreigner failed to identify the office they were taken to at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) where they alleged they met the politician.

Detectives from the Serious Crimes Unit which is part of the Directorate of the Criminal Investigations are seeking to identify government officials and politicians who may have assisted Mr. Echesa dupe foreign investors over the sensitive but false military tender worth billions of shillings.

Already, Mr Echesa and three co-accused were charged with 12 counts of fraud and released on Sh1 million cash bail each after denying the charges.

On Monday, three teams from the DCI visited Deputy President (DP) William Ruto’s office at the Harambee House Annex, the military headquarters at Ulinzi House and the KICC as investigations gather steam on the fake arms tender.

Detectives reviewed CCTV footage in DP Ruto’s office and interviewed staff alleged to have interacted with Mr. Echesa and the swindled foreign investors.

Following the DCI visit, the military spokesman and Dr Ruto’s office issued statements denying any involvement in the scandal.
