Ex-NCIC vice chair Wambui Nyutu: Gachagua has no equal in Mt Kenya

By , August 7, 2025

Immediate former National Cohesion and Integration Commission Vice Chair Wambui Nyutu has said that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is unmatched politically in the Mt Kenya region.

Nyutu, who spoke to Kameme TV on Thursday, August 7, 2025, said that she has been spending most of her time interacting with grassroots residents across central Kenya and confirmed that the ground has shifted completely from President William Ruto to Gachagua.

She stated that the political heart of the Mt Kenya region had migrated away from Ruto, saying the residents are now looking up to Gachagua for leadership and direction, despite ongoing friction between the two leaders.

“The Mt Kenya region’s heart migrated from President William Ruto to former DP Rigathi Gachagua. I spend most of my time on the ground listening to the views of residents,” Nyutu said.

She added that locals had made their frustrations known about the Kenya Kwanza administration’s alleged neglect of the region and the rising cost of living, saying many no longer wish to hear anything associated with Ruto.

Gachagua’s consistency

Nyutu credited Gachagua’s unwavering tone and clear loyalty to the Mt Kenya cause as the main reason behind his rising support, saying he has stood with the region both in and out of government.

She pointed out that even those who previously supported President Ruto are now changing their position, calling Gachagua the most honest political voice currently representing the mountain.

Nyutu also warned Mt Kenya leaders, aligning too closely with Ruto that the ground was no longer with them, and they risked political irrelevance if they failed to read the mood on the ground.

She encouraged leaders from the region to put the people first, instead of chasing personal interests tied to the State House.

The development comes amid the backdrop of reports that allies of President William Ruto are working hard to snatch the Mt Kenya region from Rigathi Gachagua, ahead of the 2027 poll.
