Ex-CS Sicily Kariuki: Kenyans should brace for fake voters in 2027
By Cynthia Lodite, August 29, 2025Former Cabinet Secretary for Health, Sicily Kariuki, has raised concerns over the rising levels of deceit in public affairs, warning that it could severely compromise the credibility of the highly anticipated 2027 General Elections.
On her part, the former Health CS’s prevalence of fake data, ghost projects, and manipulated systems in the country paints a worrying picture ahead of the next polls.
Sicily Kariuki made his remarks on Friday August 29,2025, during an interview with a local media house at the height of ghost scandals witnessed in the Country.
“There’s so much fake around us that I worry about the 2027 elections. My concern now is that in 2027, we will not have fake voters,” Sicily said.
Likewise, she cautioned that unless urgent reforms and safeguards are implemented, Kenyans may be forced to witness a rigged electoral process.
“Kenyans are being warned to prepare for ballots cast by dead people and those who don’t exist. That’s how determined some are to run this country on falsehoods,” Sicily Kariuki added.
Meanwhile, her remarks come amid ongoing national debates over electoral integrity, governance, and increasing public scepticism toward institutions tasked with upholding democratic processes.

IEBC announcemnt on registration
Notably, her remarks follow the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announcement that Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will resume on Monday, September 29, 2025.
The announcement was made in line with the commission’s constitutional mandate under Article 88(4) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
In a statement on Thursday, the Commission noted its intention to ensure that every eligible citizen has a chance to participate in shaping the country’s future.
“This exercise is a vital step in ensuring that every eligible Kenyan has the opportunity to participate in shaping the country’s future through democratic elections. It is particularly directed towards young people who have recently attained 18 years, and all citizens who have not yet registered or need to update their voter information,” IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon said.
Likewise, ahead of the September rollout, the IEBC has already begun implementing key preparatory measures to ensure the voter registration process is efficient, inclusive, and transparent.
Among the tasks underway is the mapping of registration centres, which involves verifying both existing and proposed centres to make them accessible across the country.
“In readiness for the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration, CVR exercise, the Commission has initiated a series of preparatory activities to ensure the process is efficient, inclusive, and transparent,” the statement read.
