Embu County Assembly members (MCAs) have unanimously supported Building Bridges Initiative report and call for it to be implemented through a popular vote.
While addressing the press after a closed-door meeting, the MCAs led by Josiah Thiriku, who is the Assembly’s Speaker, opposed proposal by a section of Mt Kenya MPs to have the report discussed in Parliament.
“We support President Uhuru Kenyatta on BBI that the report should be taken to the people to read and decide for themselves,” said Thiriku.
However, the Assembly said the Report should be presented in Embu County as a draft for the locals to read for themselves before subjecting it to a referendum.
At the same meeting, Ngome and Nyangi Ndiriri council of elders also agreed to support the BBI report.
Led by former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti, called for all professionals, politicians and religious leaders in Embu to unite behind the BBI report.
The elders said they will conduct meetings across the county to drum up support for the BBI report.
