Police in Kianjokoma, Embu County are yet in it again after a man who was allegedly arrested during demonstrations was ordered to roll in mud died.
An autopsy conducted on the body of Jimmy Muchangi,40, at Embu level 5 shows it showed he had injuries in the abdomen and head.
Pathologist Peter Ndegwa who conducted the post-mortem said blood vessels in Muchangi’s abdomen had been raptured and had internal bleeding.
Ndengwa further said his left side of skull had been fractured leading to the brain haemorrhage eventually leading to his untimely death.
“According to the final report on Muchangi’s body, it was substantiated that his abdomen had lost too much blood,” Ndengwa said.
Ndegwa further said the internal bleeding was caused by the injuries inflicted on him during the said demonstrations, with the body sustaining no bruises.
Benson Muchangi, a resident in Kianjokoma said it’s unfortunate that his namesake died out of injuries caused by those obligated to keep them safe.
He said those who had been arrested alongside Muchangi should visit hospitals and have their bodies examined.
The mother of the deceased said on Wednesday is when his late son developing complications before vomiting blood.
“Upon going to hospital, he was given some medications, but his situation started deteriorating. He would later succumb to injuries,” the mother of the deceased said.
Doris Namu from IMLU a human right organization said already the organization had received over 20 complains of people who had been assaulted by police during the Kianjokoma demonstrations.
She urged the government to chip in and ensure all those who were ill-treated by the said police officers should get proper medication because some cannot afford to pay for their medical bills.
Namu encouraged all those who may have encountered police assault during the Kianjokoma demos to visit any hospital around and seek medical check-up.
The residents were demonstrating to push for justice for two Kianjokoma brothers who were arrested by police and later their bodies found in Embu level 5 hospital mortuary.
