Elgeyo-Marakwet: Two policemen swept away by floods rescued as three bodies retrieved

Three bodies have been retrieved in Kaben area of Elgeyo Marakwet County following a heavy downpour in the region on Sunday, April 19.

Twelve other people are reported missing after raging floods inundated six villages on the West Pokot and Elgeyo-Marakwet counties.

Elgeyo Marakwet County Commissioner Ahmed Omar said that they have also rescued two police officers who were swept away by water in Chesogon in West Pokot.

The policemen were found in Kaben area in Elgeyo-Markawet and are set to be evacuated for specialized treatment.

Further, Omar said that several villages on the West Pokot-Elgeyo Marakwet border also lost most of their livestock to the raging floods.

“We are now assessing the extent of the damage to ensure the level of humanitarian interventions that can be made available”, he said.

Omar said that more than 20 houses were swept away by raging floods.
