Duale defended as critics push for his removal
By Paulette Mboga, September 2, 2025A section of leaders from Ukambani has come out strongly in defence of Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, following mounting pressure from some MPs who have threatened to impeach him over the ongoing Social Health Authority (SHA) scandal.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka dismissed the impeachment calls as empty threats, vowing that any attempt to oust Duale would be met with stiff resistance in Parliament. He rallied behind the CS, urging him not to be intimidated and instead to intensify the crackdown on fraudulent institutions allegedly syphoning funds from the health sector.
“Nyinyi mnasema mta-impeach yeye. Si mlete, tutaangusha. In fact, I am telling Duale, tafutana na hizi ghost institutions zote, ambazo wanajaribu kuclaim pesa za uwongo. Shut them down,” Musyoka declared.
His sentiments were echoed by nominated senator Tabitha Mutinda, who lauded Duale’s ongoing fight against cartels in the health sector. She said the CS had shown courage by exposing fake hospitals and dismantling corruption networks that have for years deprived Kenyans of quality healthcare.

Legal accountability
Senator Mutinda stressed that Duale should not be vilified for stepping on the toes of powerful cartels. Instead, she argued, he deserved support and protection from both Parliament and the public.
“Naona mheshimiwa Duale amepambana na cartels. Amenyoosha, ametoa list ya hospitali bandia. Yeye na ofisi yake, tuko nyuma yake,” she said. “Na ofisi ya DPP ichukue hatua. Sio kufunga hospitali pekee, wenye hizo hospitali, tunataka kuwaona wako ndani.”
According to Mutinda, the exposure of fraudulent hospitals must be followed by legal accountability, not just administrative closures. She called on the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to ensure that those behind the fake facilities face justice.
The show of support from Ukambani leaders comes amid growing political divisions over the handling of the SHA scandal. While some MPs have blamed Duale for failures within the health docket and called for his removal, his allies argue that he is being targeted for disrupting entrenched interests.
For now, Duale appears to have found a strong base of defenders in Ukambani, with leaders pledging to stand with him as he continues what they describe as a much-needed cleanup of the health sector.
