Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa is set to face murder trial after the office of Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) approved the new charge.
Jumwa has been out on bail following her arrest in October 2019 after a man was shot in the shoulder and killed after she stormed a meeting organized by Reuben Katana, an ODM candidate during Ganda’s ward by-election.
During the chaos, several other people including police officers were injured.
The MP is said to have arrived at the meeting in a convoy of three vehicles.
Thereafter, chaos erupted as the MP accused Katana of campaigning long after the campaign window period was over.
Jumwa and her bodyguard were arrested and arraigned in court before being released on Sh500,000 cash bail each.
The prosecution wanted the two detained for 21 days pending the conclusion of investigations into the shooting incident but the court declined to grant the request.
Senior Resident Magistrate Vincent Adet said that the court was not dealing with factual evidence as suggested by the prosecution then.
