DCP’s Mbae challenges Ruto’s statement at NSE launch
By Arnold Ngure, July 24, 2025Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Secretary for Planning and Economic Affairs Peter Mbae has castigated President William Ruto’s speech during his visit to the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
Speaking during a TV interview on Thursday, July 24, 2025, Mbae stated that Ruto’s speech on being an agent of transformation in the country was misleading and self-deceiving.
“There are some words he (Ruto) said: ‘Who knows? I could be the agent of destiny for the greatness of this country – that shocked me. The most unfortunate thing you can ever do is to have an idea that you are a superhuman being,” Mbae stated.
Sent to liberate nation
“That you are better than all the other people, and they don’t understand that you are good. That you were sent to come and liberate them; that is self-deceiving, and that is the problem we have here.”

He further stated that it was not the president’s place to proclaim how great he was as a leader, noting that that responsibility rests upon the people he leads.
“It is not on you to say how great you are as a leader; it is for other people to come and bestow accolades and entrust you with leadership,” Mbae observed.
Chance to deliver promises
“The other day in church, he alluded to the fact that he was sent by God to come and save us from our troubles; that talk is dangerous because you want to point to yourself as somebody super and other people are your subjects,” Mbae stated.

“Every government exists for health, education, and security. Today, people are not saving and have resorted to living on loans.”
During his speech at the NSE, Ruto defended his leadership style, urging the public to trust the plans he has for the country.
“What if I am an agent of destiny for the transformation of a nation whose promise has been delayed for far too long?” he posed.
“Pause, reflect, give me a chance, and judge me fairly when the right time comes. The critics may say I am wrong, the cynics may say I am lying, and the naysayers may even say I am mad. But what if they are wrong? And they are,” Ruto noted.
