Twenty-one members of the Sonko Rescue Team (SRT) were on Monday night arrested during the enforcement of the 7 pm-5 am curfew.
SRT’s head of operations, Francis Mwangi, told K24 Digital that the arrested people were taken to Muthaiga Police Station.
According to Mr. Mwangi, the 21 SRT members were heading home after completing their daily fumigation exercise when they were arrested.
The SRT has been conducting the fumigation exercise over the last two weeks but it is not clear if it has been designated as an essential service provider.
The Health docket was among key functions taken over by the national government in the State-Nairobi County handover deal signed by Governor Mike Sonko.
Further, police officers suspended the team’s food distribution program, citing fear of public gatherings which have been banned by the government as a measure of containing the spread of coronavirus.
In a video posted on his Facebook page on April 6, Sonko said that he will continue sensitising his constituents on coronavirus prevention measures.
Sonko also pledged to donate face masks and hand sanitisers to the needy and most vulnerable in Nairobi County.
