Fifty-seven more people have tested positive for Covid-19 taking total infections in Kenya to 887.

In a statement shared by Government Spokesperson (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna on Sunday, May 17, the government said it tested 2,198 samples in the last 24 hours.

“Thirty-four (34) of the positive cases are males, and twenty-three (23) are females. The youngest of the cases is two years old while the oldest is 61 years old,” said Oguna.

The distribution of the cases by counties is as follows: Mombasa (35), Nairobi (17), Kajiado (3), Kwale (1) and Kitui (1).

In Mombasa, the majority of the cases were in Mvita with 22 cases while in Nairobi, the majority of the cases were in Kibra with nine.

Further, 12 Tanzanian truck drivers tested positive, 11 of them at the Lunga Lunga border and one at the Taveta Border. They were all referred back to Tanzania.

The number of recoveries also increased as 12 patients were discharged, bringing the total of those cured to 313.

So far, 42,712 samples have been tested in Kenya.
