Kenya on Sunday recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases reported in a single day with 260 people testing positive for the virus.

Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mutahi Kagwe said that 254 of those who tested positive are Kenyans while six are foreigners.

Nairobi and Mombasa counties still continue to be the hardest hit by the virus with the two cities recording 157 and 42 cases respectively.

Further, an overwhelming majority of those who tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours were men.

Two more people died of the virus, pushing total deaths in the country to 123.

So far, the country has recorded 4,738 COVID-19 cases since the onset of the outbreak with 140,000 samples tested.

During the daily COVID-19 briefing, CS Kagwe revealed that the national government has launched the home-based care for coronavirus patients.

He said that over 600 patients have been discharged from various hospitals in compliance with World Health Regulation protocols.
