Nairobi county leadership to compensate traders affected by fire at Toi Market – Sifuna

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has disclosed plans by the Nairobi county leadership to compensate traders at the Toi market in Kibera after a devastating fire early Saturday morning August, 3,2024, caused significant damages to properties.
Sifuna added that the leadership in Nairobi will not only help in the restoration of the affected businesses but also put an end to the incessant fires in the markets across the county.
“We had another fire at Toi Market this morning. As the leadership in Nairobi, we stand with you and will do our best not only to help restore your businesses but to make sure we put an end to these incessant fires in our markets,” Sifuna said.
Properties worth millions of shillings were razed during the inferno which started at a timber wood section, however, the cause of the fire has not yet been established.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker has revealed that the Kibera Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Orero has confirmed that four people have tragically lost their lives.

A child is among the four who were burnt beyond recognition, the victims were attempting to save their belongings but unfortunately, they were overpowered by the flames.

“I have spoken to area MP Peter Orero who confirms four people tragically lost their lives. My deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Toi family, “Sifuna revealed.

This is not the first time traders at the Toi market have left counting losses following the fire blazes. On June 11, 2023, properties worth millions of Kenyan shilling were burned down during the inferno at started in the wee hours.
