Cohen’s body was unsightly – Late tycoon’s sister

Gabrielle Van Straten, the sister of the late Dutch tycoon, Tob Cohen, says she viewed her brother’s body when it was retrieved from an underground water tank in his Kitisuru home on Friday, and says it was in such a “terrible” state.

“I have seen his body, it is terrible. I do not know what to say… What do you want me to say? It is disgusting what happened,” Gabrielle told journalists at Cohen’s Kitisuru home.

Gabrielle’s remarks came just a few minutes after DCI boss George Kinoti suggested that Cohen was brutally tortured before being killed and his body dumped in the underground water tank.

“We are very grateful to the police, they have done an incredible job. You [Kenya] should be proud to have such investigation officers,” Gabrielle’s husband told journalists.

“When my wife couldn’t get hold of her brother on phone sometime in July 2019, her first reaction was: ‘He has been murdered,” added Gabrielle’s husband.

“What happened is unbelievable,” he said.

Gabrielle said even when Cohen was undergoing turbulence in his marriage, he “still loved Kenya, and did not want to relocate to the Netherlands”.

“Cohen loved Kenya. He did not want to go back to Holland. He wanted to promote your country; the golf, the safari, and so on and so forth. His journey has ended in such an unbelievable manner,” said Gabrielle.

Tob Cohen went missing on July 19, 2019.

His wife, Sarah Wairimu Kamotho, the key suspect in the murder, has been detained, awaiting mental test before being charged.
