Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati has called for a consultative meeting with the four presidential hopefuls following concerns from UDA’s William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja’s Raila Odinga about Form 34As & 34Bs.
The meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, July 29 will see the quartet have a sit down at the Bomas of Kenya.
Ruto and Raila had on Wednesday demanded a meet-up with IEBC seeking answers over the extra booklet for the presidential declaration forms.
The two front runners say, their concerns stem from the recent trip to Greece by IEBC and stakeholders after it emerged that they are planning to print two sets of Forms 34A which are used to declare the results at the polling stations.
This was informed to them by their respective representatives who had travelled alongside the IEBC commissioners.
In a letter to the IEBC, their representatives had raised an issue with the printing of two sets of the forms. Still, the explanations given by the Commissioners present were not satisfactory.
In a letter signed by UDA secretary general Veronica Maina, the two parties had agreed to first meet and solve the issues raised after the touchdown of ballot papers at the JKIA.
“In our view, the commission should stick to one set of form 34A,” Maina said.
In Raila’s letter signed by his chief legal advisor, he said his representatives had been told the extra copies were for the media and observers.
“We, however, reject this explanation. Firstly, Book 2 of 2 from which it is alleged copies for stakeholders will be obtained is more than just a copy. It is actually a set of fully fledged form 34As complete with all security features similar to those in Book 1 and 2,” part of the letter by Raila’s legal advisor Paul Mwangi states.
Raila further claims, that IEBC did not order the printing of Form 34B as it was unnecessary.
