Kenyans who were not listed on Saturday night during the ongoing 2019 census have been assured they will still be counted since the exercise ends next Saturday.
Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna issued the assurances on Sunday, August 25, a day after the 2019 census kicked off.
“Fellow Kenyans, thank you for your participation on day one of the big count. The first day of the census exercise was largely successful. We are encouraged by the progress and can confirm that exercise went on smoothly. The enthusiasm and eagerness to be counted was profound,” said Colonel Oguna.
Mr Oguna also thanked business owners for heeding the government’s call to close their businesses at 5 pm to allow workers participate in the listing.

“We also wish to thank the media for the extensive coverage, updates and analyses of the enumeration process. The human interest stories and other anecdotes have put life into the census,” said Mr Oguna.
He said enumerators will interview unlisted persons between 6 pm and 10 pm from Monday.
Several data kits that failed during the kick off have been replaced, said the Government Spokesman, during the media briefing.
The 2019 census, he said, will close on Saturday, August 31.
