Parliament sets date for vetting Cabinet nominees

The National Assembly has set a date for the vetting of Cabinet Secretaries nominated by President William Ruto.

In a notice on Thursday, July 25, 2024, the National Assembly noted that the CS nominees will be vetted from Thursday, August 1, 2024.

According to the National Assembly’s notice, the vetting process will conclude on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

The CS nominees will be expected to meet the Committee on Appointments at the Mini-Chamber, County Hall, Parliament Buildings starting from 8.00 am.

Vetting Schedule

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki will be the first nominee to face the Committee on Appointments on Thursday August 1, 2024.

Kindiki will be expected to defend his tenure at the ministry and convince the Committee on Appointments on why he is the suitable candidate for the role.

Second on the rota is Debra Mlongo Barasa, Health Cabinet Secretary nominee, who is expected to face the panel starting from 10:00 am immediately after Kindiki.

On the first day, other CS nominees who will be vetted include Alice Wahome (Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development), Julius Migos Ogamba (Education) and Roselinda Soipan Tuya (Defence).

On Friday, August 2, 2024, Dr. Andrew Mwihia Karanja CS nominee for Agriculture and Livestock Development will face the panel at 8:00 am.

He will be followed by Aden Barre Duale (Environment, Climate Change and Forestry), Eric Muriithi Muuga (Water, Sanitation and irrigation), Davis Chirchir (Roads and Transport) and Dr. Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u (Information. Communication and the Digital Economy).

On Saturday, August 3, 2024, it will be John Mbadi’s opportunity to defend his nomination as CS for National Treasury and Investments, Trade & Industry Economic Planning.

Other nominees lined up for vetting on the same day include Salim Mvurya Mgala (Investment, Trade and Industry) Rebecca Miano (Tourism and Wildlife) James Opiyo Wandayi (Energy and Petroleum) and Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen (Youth Affairs, Creative Economy & Sports)

On the final day, Ali Hassan Joho (Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs), Alfred Nganga Mutua (Labour and Social Protection), Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya (Co-operatives and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)), Justin Bedan Njoka Muturi (Public Service & Human Capital Development) and Stella Soi Lang’at (Gender, Culture, The Arts & Heritage) will be vetted.
