A director of a construction firm who attempted to shoot a detective, forcing the officer to jump out of a moving car, has been charged.
The prosecuted told the court that the businessman tried to shoot the Directorate of Criminal Investigations officer at the time of the arrest on Mombasa Road on October 11, 2019.
Hassan Ahmednur was charged on Monday alongside his company, Hanamal Construction Limited, with Sh173 million tax evasion at the Milimani Law Courts.
He appeared before Magistrate Peter Ooko and denied five counts of tax fraud.
According to the charge sheet, Ahmednur committed the offence on diverse dates between January 1, 2015 and January 1, 2018, while earning taxable income as a director.
Ahmednur is said to have made incorrect statements in his Value Added Tax (VAT) returns for the months in 2015, 2016, 2017, an act which reduced his VAT liability by Sh65,651,535.
He was also charged with giving incorrect statements, an act, which again reduced his VAT liability by Sh57,538,801.
In court documents, Ahmednur is accused of reducing his corporate tax liability by Sh4,944,163.
