The body of a missing 13-year-old Form One student at Ngamwa secondary school in Mukurwe-ini constituency was on Monday 20, 2021 found stashed in a sack and dumped in River Rwarai near her home in Kabuta village.
The late Mary Waithera Mbaire reportedly went missing on August 29, 2021 at around 6:00 pm, shortly after running an errand for her family at a nearby market.
The family reported her disappearance at the Mukurwe-ini police station and had until the discovery of her body not established her whereabouts.
“We have been looking for her everywhere, from homes of our extended family members to the homes of the parents of her friends with no success. Yesterday evening, two men who went fishing at river Rwarai, raised an alarm that they discovered a gunny bag that was smelly, and had flies all over. Police officers retrieved the body, which we positively identified as our kin’s body.” her uncle said.
Speaking after the shocking discovery, Gikondi Member of County Assembly Mary Wamuyu lamented over security lapse in the area. She added that a similar incident involving a 2-year-old girl was reported in August. The infant’s body was also found in a sack after weeks of searching.
“We are urging the national government to take charge of its people as we are now living in fear due to unfortunate incidents that have been happening in our area. We need to be assured that our kids are safe when we release them for school or when we send them,” she said.
Mukurwe-ini Sub-county Police Commander, Mwakiria Jesse, confirmed the incident noting that investigations have been launched to unearth the killers of the young girl. He said that they are in possession of leads that they believe will enable them make arrests in the coming few days.
