Former Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru was on Saturday, May 30, discharged from the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi after testing negative for coronavirus.

Wanjiru had been admitted at the facility for nine days, beginning Thursday, May 21.

While leaving the hospital a few minutes past 4pm, the bishop revealed she was diagnosed with COVID-19 after developing stomach complications.

“COVID-19 leverages on other ailments in the body to cause health problems. [Last week], when the doctors sat me down and advised that I undertake a COVID-19 test, I packed my clothes in a bag and drove to the Aga Khan University Hospital,” she said.

“Immediately I arrived at the hospital, they put me on oxygen support as we waited for the test results.”

Wanjiru urges Kenyans to embrace testing for coronavirus so that it can be detected early and make its treatment easy.

“Quick response is key to saving someone’s life. Kenyans, shun the belief that currently, hospitals in Kenya are only treating COVID-19 patients. That is not true. Throughout my time here, I saw many other patients, who did not have COVID-19 being treated and taken good care of,” she said.

“Two tests were conducted on me to ascertain that I am coronavirus-free.”

Wanjiru contracted the disease after allegedly hosting more than 20 people at her Nairobi home for a prayer session.
