A renowned PCEA cleric, Reverend Godfrey Jomo, has requested banks countrywide to put sanitiser dispensers near their Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) outlets to protect their clients from contracting or spreading coronavirus.

Speaking to KNA in Nairobi, Jomo regretted that though the outlets are manned by guards day and night, many banks are yet to provide their customers with hand sanitisers.

“Thousands of bank customers among them foreigners use ATMs as opposed to banking halls due to their convenience. It is, therefore, imperative for banks’ management to place sanitary dispensers within the outlets to prevent transmission of the virus,” he said.

The PCEA Cleric hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s move to close all schools on Sunday, terming it the surest way to guard students and teachers from contracting COVID-19.

But on Sunday, President Kenyatta urged Kenyans to rely on mobile money and credit cards to avoid the risk of transmission through physical cash.

“In order to avoid the risk of transmission through physical handling of money, we encourage the use of cashless transactions such as mobile money and credit cards. We appeal to mobile operators and banks to take into consideration the situation, and reduce the cost of transactions during this period,” said the Head of State.
